(Day 48) On a change in location and attitude...

Image
This morning (Saturday July 30th) was spent washing clothes and getting ready to depart Shalom Prayer Centre.  With a pending change in location comes a change in attitude... On Friday evening I had sent out a number of requests to the Couch Surfing network with possible requests to "surf" with folk along the intended route through the high desert and, along the Interstate.  It was my intention to use this information to decide which route I would take as one of my concerns was tenting in the desert... I wasn't looking forward to the heat setting up camp or the critters that roam the desert at night... Well, the replies started coming in on Saturday morning and before I knew it I had places to stay at my proposed first three stops through the high country... I guess I now know which way I am going: Boise, OR to Loa, UT to Cortez, CO to Limon, CO and then on through Kansas and Missouri... and... it looks like my friend Al Wallace is going to be able to join me after al...

(Day 28) On changing plans...

Another early morning.  Up at 5:30AM and after a quick coffee it was off in the rain to do south of Superior.  I was planning to go the northern route but there was a chance of a storm and odds were better in missing it if I went south... so, into the good ole US of A we go... South on Interstate 75 a zig and a zag and I was on Michigan 28 rolling through the Hiawatha National  Forest and on along the shore of Lake Superior to Marquette. It was here that I met Aaron and his family at the McDonald's.  We had a great chat about getting to know your neighbours, the hospitality of strangers and of couse... motorcycles!  Enjoy those littles one Aaron and soon you can take off on an adventure of your own again!! It was a long day.  A few little sprinkles of rain and hot!! Just over 689 KM and here I sit in the McDonald's in Superior, Wisconsin updating the blog and trying to decided where to go for a campground for the night.  Decisions.  W...

(Day 10) On hauling garbage, garbage cars and graduations... and time!

The day began with a plan. Pick up borrowed trailer. (Thanks Ernie) Load construction waste. Drive to Moncton. Load scrap metal. Drive to metal trader. Return trailer.  (Thanks Ernie) Clean garage. Change rear motorcycle tire. All was well until number three.  Got on the highway to Moncton, moving right along and all of a sudden red flashing light on the dash board and a beeping noise...  Oh great!  It's gonna blow up - just let me pull over here and get out of the way!!! I was concerned.  I didn't know what the warning light was for.  I pulled over.  Shut the thing off and pulled out the owners manual.  That was no help.  I looked a little closer.  An exclamation mark in a circle surrounded by brackets... hmmmm.... brake....  I turned the key on.  No beeping.  No light.  Pulled up the parking brake... and there it was... Brakes were working fine (I stopped didn't I?).  So I continued on m...

(Day 9) On caring community and changing...

“How does one become a butterfly?” she asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” ~ Trina Paulus This morning saw me head to Springhill as if it was a regular workday.  Over the weekend I received a call from the partner of a man I had the privilege of working with over a number of years.  He was having a difficult time and needed some support and encouragement.  My supervisors within CSC approved my going to visit him so I headed to the Institution, did some paperwork and then headed to Halifax about 9AM. Along the way I called Clarence Deschiffart who facilitates the Kairos Marathon program and inquired about meeting for lunch before my other meeting. Clarence informed me that he was meeting with Tracey Demmons, Director of the Charles Taylor Centre for Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care and invited me to come along.  We had a delightful vegetarian lunch at Satisfaction Feast on Robie Stre...
